What drives crypto prices
Bitcoin and altcoin prices are set by supply and demand on global exchanges — Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit. Main movers:
- Institutional demand — flows from large funds (BlackRock, Fidelity via spot ETFs), corporations (MicroStrategy), and governments (El Salvador, Bhutan).
- Regulation — US SEC decisions, EU MiCA directives, country-level tax rules for crypto income.
- On-chain events — Bitcoin halvings (every 4 years), Ethereum hardforks, growth of Layer-2 networks (Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum).
- Macro — Fed rate, dollar inflation, gold price. Bitcoin is often called "digital gold" — though the correlation is unstable.
How to buy crypto in Ukraine
Three main ways to convert UAH into BTC, ETH or USDT. Fees, UAH support and KYC for each exchange are compared on the crypto exchanges page.
- UAH-on-ramp exchange — WhiteBIT (Ukrainian, direct Privat/Mono card support), Kuna, EXMO. Card conversion fee 1–3%.
- P2P marketplace — Binance P2P, Bybit P2P, OKX P2P. Buy USDT from verified sellers via card. Spread 0.1–0.5%.
- OTC exchangers — physical and online offices in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa. Rate is 1–3% worse but KYC-free below certain thresholds.
Crypto tax in Ukraine 2026
Since 2022, crypto income is taxed at 19.5%: 18% personal income tax + 1.5% military levy. Annual return is due by 1 May for the previous year. Exchanges don't withhold automatically — that's the user's responsibility. Tax applies to realised gains (on sale), not to unrealised gains while holding.

By unit price — Bitcoin (BTC). But "expensive per unit" ≠ "most valuable": XRP trades around $1.4 yet has higher market cap than many coins with much higher unit prices, because of differing supply.

Can I buy less than 1 bitcoin?
Yes. Minimum on most exchanges starts at $5–10 (about 200–400 ₴). Bitcoin divides down to 8 decimal places: 1 satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC.
